We are the Bahá’ís of Birmingham, followers of the Bahá’í Faith, the youngest and second most geographically widespread of the world religions, established in 235 countries and territories throughout the world. There are around 5 million Bahá’ís worldwide drawn from over 2,100 ethnic, racial, and tribal groups.
Bahá’u’lláh is the Founder of the Bahá’í Faith. He taught around 150 years ago that humanity was one single race and that the day had come for the world to become unified in one global society. Bahá’u’lláh wrote:
“The well-being of mankind, its peace and security, are unattainable unless and until its unity is firmly established.”
What do Bahá’ís believe?
Bahá’ís believe in the oneness of God, the fundamental oneness of all religions and the oneness of humanity. Bahá’u’llah proclaimed that all the world’s religions represent one ‘common Faith’ that throughout the ages has been renewed and progressively unfolded to humanity.
Teachings of the Bahá’í Faith include the need for every individual to investigate reality independently without blindly following tradition, the essential harmony between science and religion, universal education, and the equality of women and men.
What do Bahá’ís do?
Bahá’u’lláh called for the transformation of both the individual and the organisation of society. His teachings demand both an inner transformation of the individual and a transformation of present society to one founded on cooperation, compassion and justice. Around the globe, Bahá’ís are united by this common outlook that holds to high moral standards along with a commitment to serving the wider community.
The local Bahá’í community of Birmingham works for principles of social transformation and unity. We hold regular devotional meetings, study circles, classes for children and junior youth, and introductory meetings about the Bahá’í Faith.
We invite you to learn more about our Faith with us – about its perspective of the past, its understanding of our present, and its vision of the future. Find out more on our activities page or contact us.
